For my Final Major Project at the University of Portsmouth, I chose to merge my obsession with the beautiful game with my passion for editorial design. Heavily influenced by the aesthetic grit and storytelling of Mundial and Football Is Everywhere publications, I set out to explore the turning point of British football: 1992.
The project investigates the 'Football was founded in '92' narrative, documenting the history before and after the introduction of the Sky Sports investment which transformed a community pastime into a global commercial powerhouse.
The 116-page editorial book allowed me to use a wide range of creative methods, from data visualisation of past league tables and stats to long-form layout design. There's three sections to the book; first half, second half and overtime. The latter features deep-dive interviews with professional players Nathan Ashmore and Amine Linganzi alongside popular content creator Second Yellow Card, adding a personal touch to the publication.
